since i was a little girl, i always dreamed of being a singer. my parents put me in acting and choir, but i was never fully satisfied. i didn’t want to be a part of the choir, i wanted to sing my own songs. i knew i was going to be a star. people would mock me for it, but i never gave up my dreams. i knew if i truly believed in something, it would come true.
now, i’m two months into working on my solo album with hollywood-based producer aaron greene. i have three more tracks to go before we start shopping my demos to labels. working with aaron is the biggest blessing of my life. it’s a fresh new start for me. i feel like i’m finally able to bare my soul through my music and show the world what i’m capable of. i feel electricity running through my veins when i sing. i can’t wait for you all to hear what i’m working on. these new songs mean the world to me.
to everyone who has ever listened to one of my songs, bless you. thank you so much. i don’t think i have thanked you all enough. i wouldn’t be where i am today if it wasn’t for you checking out my music. if i could give each of you a hug i would. you are all my light of inspiration and what i live for. you guys are the reason i do this. i really hope you enjoy my new album which should be out later this year. One of the reasons Aquadolls rock, probably the main reason, is Melissa Brooks - frontperson and outspoken feminist-beachy-goth-punk.
"We live in a world where rock music is male-dominated. There is a lot of sexism in the music industry and it really bums me out. By making music, I want to inspire people to not care about what other people have to say about you, or what you’re “supposed to do”. I hate that shit. I am myself, not who anyone wants me to become. I am my own girl, my own person. I believe in equality, and it’s just something that isn’t present in the music world. Maybe by me making music that pushes female empowerment, it will leave more girls feeling badass inside, like everyone should feel!! That is all I could ever ask for." — Melissa Brooks, The Aquadolls.
Best new song I’ve heard this year.
